Security at Parliament has been significantly strengthened, with a new perimeter introduced at the entrance to the chamber to prevent suspended Members of Parliament (MPs) from entering. The move, which also aims to block non-MPs, comes in response to disruptions during the Appointment Committee’s proceedings on January 31, which led to the suspension of several MPs for two weeks.

The enhanced security measures are designed to maintain order as Parliament prepares to make critical decisions on the approval of ministerial nominees, who were vetted earlier by the Appointment Committee. The incident that triggered the suspensions has prompted increased vigilance as the legislative body seeks to avoid further disruptions.
