Bernard Ahiafor, Chairman of Parliament’s Appointments Committee, has revealed that Minority MPs were acting on instructions from their leader, Afenyo-Markin, during the chaotic scenes that unfolded on January 30, 2025, during the ministerial vetting process.

Appearing before the Committee investigating the incident, Ahiafor condemned the conduct of the Minority members, expressing surprise at their behavior. He recounted how, at one point, Afenyo-Markin became visibly harsh towards Deputy Minority Chief Whip Jerry Shaib.

Ahiafor detailed a moment when he overheard the Minority leader instructing that certain individuals be brought into the vetting room, shortly before members entered without authorization. He also described an incident where Afenyo-Markin ordered the turning on of all microphones, further disrupting the proceedings.

“I didn’t understand their intentions,” Ahiafor said, adding that the situation escalated when, in a brief moment, someone made a comment in Twi, prompting MPs to begin pulling cables, which led to pandemonium. “The whole place became very hostile. I was taken aback by the entire event,” he remarked.

The Committee is continuing its investigation into the events that led to the disruption, which saw the vetting process derailed and state property damaged.
