Frank Annoh-Dompreh, the Minority Chief Whip of Parliament, has warned that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) will disrupt parliamentary proceedings until the issue surrounding the Ablekuma North constituency election is resolved.
The collation of results for the constituency has been stalled for over a month amid disagreements, with tensions escalating to the point where property was damaged at the Electoral Commission’s regional office.
Speaking to NPP supporters after a visit to the party’s parliamentary candidate for Ablekuma North, Ekua Afriyie, Annoh-Dompreh accused the National Democratic Congress (NDC) of obstructing the electoral process.
“If the NDC, led by Mahama Ayariga, continues to deny that the NPP won the seat and disrupt the Electoral Commission’s work, they will not have peace in Parliament,” Annoh-Dompreh said.
He also expressed frustration with the lack of accountability for those responsible for damaging property during the election process, urging the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to take action. He threatened that NPP members in Parliament would “continue to demonstrate” if no action was taken.
The Minority Chief Whip set a seven-day deadline for the Electoral Commission (EC) to declare the winner of the Ablekuma North election, insisting that Ekua Afriyie should be officially declared the winner.
Meanwhile, both Ekua Afriyie of the NPP and Ewurabena Aubyn of the NDC have put up billboards claiming victory in the disputed election, further intensifying the ongoing tension.
