Ghanaian actor-turned-politician John Dumelo has vowed to continue supporting the country’s creative arts industry, despite his new responsibilities as a Member of Parliament and Deputy Minister-designate for Food and Agriculture.

At the launch of Celestine Donkor’s 11th Celestial Praiz concert on February 6, 2025, Dumelo expressed his admiration for the gospel musician’s contributions and assured the audience that his involvement in politics and agriculture would not detract from his commitment to the arts.

“Even though I am now an MP and part of the Agric Ministry, I will never forget where I came from—the arts sector. I will always remain a creative person. If we don’t nurture our own, who will?” Dumelo remarked at the event held at the Tang Palace in Accra.

Dumelo also emphasized the economic importance of the creative arts, asserting that despite some people undervaluing the sector, it remains a crucial driver of the country’s economy.

The actor’s recent appointment as Deputy Minister for Food and Agriculture follows speculation that he could be tapped for a role in the Ministry of Tourism, Culture, and Creative Arts. Outside of his political career, Dumelo has been a prominent advocate for agriculture, urging young people to consider the sector as a career path.
