Alhaji Muhammad Mumuni has been elected as the Northern Region’s representative on Ghana’s Council of State, securing 26 out of 32 votes in the recent election. The former Kumbungu MP (1996-2004) triumphed over three other candidates to claim the seat.

Mumuni, who has a wealth of experience in public service, including serving as Minister for Foreign Affairs and holding key roles in various parliamentary committees, expressed his commitment to effectively representing the region. Speaking to Citi News, he emphasized his extensive background, which spans from his early days as an Assemblymember to serving in both the Rawlings and Mills administrations.

“I have performed in many aspects of government… I have served in two cabinets, and I’ve been a running mate. The Northern Region has made the right choice with me,” Mumuni said. “I am confident that my experience will enhance the work of the Council of State and help the president in his administration. The reset agenda is on.”

In contrast, the other candidates—Richard Andani Yakubu, Nyande Abdul Raqb, and Adam Hussein—received 4, 2, and 0 votes, respectively.
