Alfred Tuah-Yeboah, former Deputy Attorney General of Ghana, has dismissed the Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) initiative as ineffective, stating that he would not respond to any invitation from the committee.

Speaking on JoyNews  Tuah-Yeboah criticized the ORAL initiative, saying, “I see ORAL as a toothless institution without the power to investigate or engage in many activities.” He added that while ORAL committee member Martin Kpebu is a private legal practitioner, he does not have the authority to investigate or prosecute individuals.

“If Martin Kpebu were to invite me, I wouldn’t attend, even if I were corrupt,” Tuah-Yeboah remarked, asserting that only state institutions, such as the Police or EOCO, hold the authority to address issues of corruption.

The ORAL Committee, led by North Tongu MP Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, recently submitted over 2,000 corruption-related cases to President John Mahama. The cases, mainly involving alleged corruption by officials from the previous government, were handed over to the Attorney General for review and potential legal action.

The committee also revealed that the state could recover over $21 billion in stolen assets, including lands and properties. However, Tuah-Yeboah insists that resources should be allocated to state institutions with the proper authority to fight corruption.
