Kwadwo Nkansah Lilwin’s latest film, A Country Called Ghana, will premiere in cinemas on February 28, 2025, across Silverbird Cinemas in Ghana and Nigeria.

Since its debut last year, the film has received widespread acclaim, winning several international awards, including Best Indigenous Film at the 2024 Nollywood Film Festival, and accolades for Best Production Design and Best Makeup at the 2024 Imo International Film Festival.

At a media event in Kumasi, Director Frank Fiifi Ghabin revealed that the film will be shown across all 16 regions of Ghana, with screenings planned for Silverbird Cinemas at the Accra Mall, West Hills Mall in Accra, and Golden Eagle Cinema in Kumasi. He also shared that the film will be available in cinemas across Nigeria, including in Lagos, Abuja, and Onitsha.

Mr.Ghabin explained that the film had won 17 awards out of 33 nominations both locally and internationally since its release, despite challenges during production. He highlighted the film’s role in promoting Ghana’s movie industry and projecting the country’s image on the global stage.

“We are not just showcasing a movie; we are showcasing Ghana to the world,” Ghabin said, adding that the film’s international success led to its selection for cinema distribution by Silverbird Distribution International.

Lilwin, who was present at the event, spoke about the substantial investment required to meet international production standards. He noted that the film’s high-quality production involved sourcing equipment from outside Ghana. He also expressed his ambition for the film to be featured on Netflix, though he stressed that he would continue producing quality films regardless of that outcome.

“We need the support of the entire industry—media, government, and stakeholders—to help elevate Ghana’s film industry globally,” Lilwin said.

With the release of A Country Called Ghana, the film aims to further promote Ghanaian cinema and showcase authentic African storytelling to international audiences.
