The West African Gas Pipeline Company Limited (WAPCo) has confirmed that it is 70% through its planned maintenance work, bringing it closer to resuming gas supply to Tema by the target date of March 2, 2025.

The ongoing maintenance involves cleaning and inspecting the offshore pipeline through a process known as pigging. Although initially scheduled for completion by February 3, the project is now expected to be finished by early March.

Speaking at a press briefing in the Tema Industrial Area, Engineer Benoni Owusu Ayeh, WAPCo’s Operations and Maintenance Superintendent for Western Operations, reassured the public that the company was on track to meet the deadline. “We’re making good progress and anticipate completing the work before March 2, unless something unforeseen occurs,” he said.

While gas supply to Tema and Lomé is expected to resume on schedule, work will continue on the Cotonou lateral, with gas supply there expected to restart around March 5 or 7.

The maintenance is seen as essential to ensuring the ongoing safety and efficiency of the pipeline, which plays a vital role in Ghana’s energy supply.
