In a unified effort to address matchday security concerns, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and the Ministry of Sports and Recreation have launched a thorough inspection of all league venues as the Ghana Premier League (GPL) prepares to resume.

This proactive move is part of the newly introduced Enhanced Matchday Safety and Security Protocols 2025, aimed at ensuring the safety of players, officials, and fans as the league returns to action.

The initiative follows the tragic death of Asante Kotoko fan Nana Pooley during a match between Kotoko and Nsoatreman in Nsoatre, which highlighted the urgent need for improved security measures. The GFA has since engaged with supporters’ groups from various clubs to discuss safety protocols and eliminate hooliganism from Ghanaian football.

While MTN FA Cup matches over the weekend marked the return of football activities after the tragedy, the GFA has assured the public that the GPL will only restart once the inspections are complete and all safety standards are met.

The GFA has called for full collaboration from all stakeholders, emphasizing that safety remains the top priority as the league is set to resume on March 7, 2025.
