The Minority in Parliament has been blocked from pursuing a motion calling for a probe into the dismissal of workers hired after December 7, 2024.
The motion, led by the Minority Leader alongside two other New Patriotic Party (NPP) lawmakers, sought to have Parliament declare these dismissals unconstitutional.
Before the motion could be introduced, Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga raised an objection, asserting that the issue was already under judicial review. First Deputy Speaker Bernard Ahiafor agreed with the objection, ruling that the motion would be suspended pending the outcome of the case before the Supreme Court.
“The motion and any subsequent debate are stayed pending the determination of the matter by the Supreme Court,” Mr.Ahiafor stated. “The objection is sustained, and the motion cannot proceed.”
In February 2025, Chief of Staff Julius Debrah issued a directive reversing all public service appointments and recruitments made after December 7, citing violations of established governance principles. This decision has sparked criticism from opposition leaders and affected workers, who have condemned the move as unfair and unconstitutional.
