The deadly explosion that rocked Konongo Odumasi in Ashanti region on Wednesday has claimed three lives, including a woman and two men.

The blast, which occurred at a shop storing mining explosives, has also left several others injured, including two firefighters.

Initial reports indicated one fatality, but as of Thursday morning, two more victims have died from their injuries, while five others remain in the hospital, some in critical condition.

The explosion, which originated in stores selling dynamites and other mining materials, unleashed powerful blasts that shook the earth and caused widespread damage. Buildings were severely damaged, and the intense fire left a trail of destruction in its wake.

According to authorities, two the survivors are in severe condition, though they are responding to treatment. More than 20 homes have been affected, with extensive damage, including ripped-off roofs. “I’ve been to the scene, and it’s not pretty. Many businesses had their properties destroyed,” he said.

The explosion occurred just 50 meters away from a fuel station, adding to the danger of the situation. Authorities are still investigating the cause of the blast, though it’s been reported that the driver of the first fire tender on the scene collapsed after his vehicle was hit by the force of the explosion.

As the community grapples with the aftermath, local authorities continue their efforts to provide aid and determine the source of the tragic incident.
