The Member of Parliament for Madina, has reintroduced the Anti-Witchcraft Accusation Bill, a legislative effort aimed at criminalizing witchcraft accusations and safeguarding vulnerable elderly women in Ghana.

The bill, originally passed by Parliament in July 2023, had stalled after former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo declined to sign it into law, citing constitutional concerns.

Despite receiving broad support, including an endorsement from the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ), the bill lapsed with the dissolution of the 8th Parliament. Undeterred, Sosu has rallied a coalition of nine other MPs to bring the bill back for consideration in the 9th Parliament.

The group of lawmakers backing the bill includes Rockson Nelson Dafeamekpor (South Dayi), Comfort Doyoe (Ada), Dr. Godfred Seidu Jasaw (Wa East), Hajia Laadi Ayii Ayamba (Pusiga), Kwame Anyimadu-Antwi (Asante-Akim Central), Helen Adjoa Ntoso (Krachi West), Dzifa Gomashie (Ketu South), Zuwera Ibrahimah (Salaga South), and Rita Naa Odoley Sowah (La-Dadekotopon).

Mr. Sosu has vowed to continue pushing for the bill’s passage, emphasizing the need to protect the dignity and rights of elderly women, aligning the legislation with Ghana’s constitutional principles and international human rights commitments.
