The Abossey Okai Spare Parts Dealers Association has refuted claims by the Alliance of Drivers – Ghana, which linked rising spare parts prices to the planned 20% fare increase set to take effect on March 17, 2025.

In a statement released on March 16, the association called the assertion “false, misleading, and unfounded,” urging the public to disregard it. Mr. Henry Okyere Jnr, Chairman of the Abossey Okai Spare Parts Dealers Association and President of the Ghana Auto Parts Dealers Association, emphasized that spare parts prices have remained stable, with no changes in import duties or market conditions that could justify the claims.

“The prices of essential vehicle components, such as engine oil and filters, have not changed,” Mr. Okyere said. “Therefore, any suggestion that spare parts costs are driving fare increases is baseless.”

The association further called on the Alliance of Drivers – Ghana to base fare adjustments on solid economic data, advocating for transparent discussions with relevant stakeholders, including government regulators and transport unions. They urged the public to disregard the misleading claims and reaffirmed their commitment to transparency in the transportation and spare parts sectors.
