The Civil and Local Government Staff Association of Ghana (CLOGSAG) has decided to suspend its nationwide strike, which had disrupted public services since February 20, 2025. The decision was reached after an emergency meeting of the association’s National Executive Council (NEC) on March 28, 2025.

In a statement issued by CLOGSAG’s Executive Secretary, Isaac Bampoe Addo, the union explained that the suspension would allow for continued discussions aimed at resolving the dispute. “CLOGSAG urges staff of the Civil Service and the Local Government Service to return to work on Wednesday, April 2, 2025,” the statement read.

The strike, which began in protest over the appointment of Samuel Adom Botchway as the Births and Deaths Registrar, centered on concerns over his alleged political ties to the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC). CLOGSAG had demanded that the position be filled by a civil servant, arguing that the appointment of a politically affiliated individual undermined the neutrality and professionalism expected in the public sector.

While the strike has been suspended, tensions remain over the political implications of civil service appointments in Ghana.
