A women’s empowerment group, Inspired Women Empowerment, is demanding swift justice for Joana Deladem Yabani, a final-year student of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) who was allegedly murdered on campus.

The group has urged Attorney General Dominic Ayine and the Judicial Service to ensure that those responsible face the full force of the law.

“Our Schools Must Be Safe”

Speaking to TheDotNews.com, Dr. Mrs. Mary Offei-Agyeman Bioh, a founding member of the group, expressed grave concern over the safety of young women in Ghana’s educational institutions.

“It is unacceptable for students, especially young women, to live in fear on their own campuses. Our schools must do more to strengthen security,” she said.

Dr. Mary also urged students to remain vigilant and mindful of the people they associate with.

“Love Shouldn’t Lead to Tragedy”

Touching on the alleged murder of Joana Deladem Yabani, Dr. Mary lamented the increasing violence against women, stressing that no woman should have to suffer such a fate.

“It is not a crime for a girl to fall in love; and it is not a crime for a lady to say I am not interested in a relationship,” she argued.

She continued that, “No woman should be killed because she doesn’t want to continue with a toxic relationship. I’m pleading with the authorities—justice must be served.”

Dr. Mary, who is also the founder of the Ropheka Foundation and Ropheka Health Center, pledged the group’s unwavering support in seeking justice for Joana. She also called on other women’s rights organizations to join the fight against gender-based violence.
