The government has officially dissolved the National Cathedral Secretariat, marking a dramatic shift in the future of the long-debated project initiated by former President Nana Akufo-Addo.

The National Cathedral, conceived as a grand Christian worship center and a symbol of Ghana’s religious heritage, has faced ongoing criticism and controversy over its financial management and execution.

Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the Minister of State for Government Communications, confirmed the dissolution during an appearance on Channel One TV’s Face to Face program. He also stated that the government would no longer provide funding for the stalled National Cathedral project.

The move aligns with President John Dramani Mahama’s stance that taxpayer money should not be allocated to the project moving forward. The decision comes amid mounting allegations of financial mismanagement and corruption associated with the initiative, leaving many questioning the project’s feasibility and its handling of public funds.
