Inspector General of Police, Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has called on the youth in Bawku to lay down their arms and embrace peace, promising them priority in upcoming police recruitment exercises.

During a visit to the conflict-affected area on Friday, 11 April, the IGP announced that a special recruitment team would be deployed specifically to the region to provide opportunities for young people.

“When it comes to recruitment, we will give the people of Bawku priority,” he said. “A special team will come here to do special recruitment for the youth of Bawku.”

Mr Yohuno acknowledged the resilience and hardworking nature of the people in the area and urged the community to support efforts to restore peace. He invited residents to report any grievances or concerns about police conduct, pledging swift corrective action where necessary.

“Let us know where we are going wrong so we can correct those things quickly,” he said. “Where, by mistake, we have done something wrong, forgive us. We won’t repeat those things again.”

Bawku has witnessed sporadic outbreaks of violence in recent years, prompting security interventions and calls for long-term solutions.
