Kumasi Mayor Richard Ofori Agyemang Boadi announced that, beginning May 1, any livestock found roaming within the metropolis will be seized, slaughtered, and repurposed to feed inmates at the Kumasi Central Prison.

Speaking at a press briefing on Monday, Mayor Boadi characterized the roaming cattle as a public nuisance that threatens the city’s image and hygiene, particularly along major corridors such as the route from Kumasi Airport to the Manhyia Palace.

“I cannot allow a situation where visitors arrive in Kumasi and the first thing they encounter is cattle waste littering our streets,” Boadi said. “From May 1, any stray cattle within KMA jurisdiction will be killed and supplied to the central prison.”

The mayor issued a stern warning to herders, urging them to keep their livestock away from urban areas or face severe consequences. The directive comes as part of broader efforts to enforce city regulations and preserve Kumasi’s stature as a regional capital.

The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) has in recent years struggled to manage the presence of animals within city limits—a challenge that has drawn criticism from residents and officials alike. Mayor Boadi’s announcement signals a new level of enforcement intended to address the issue with immediate and visible impact.
