Christian Rogg has been appointed the new British High Commissioner to Ghana, the UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Office (FCDO) announced on April 17, 2025. Mr. Rogg succeeds Harriet Thompson, who will take up a new Diplomatic Service role.

Mr.Rogg’s appointment brings a wealth of experience, including a prior tenure in Accra from 2006 to 2009 as Head of the Governance and Growth Team at the UK’s Department for International Development (DFID). This role deepened his understanding of Ghana’s political and economic dynamics, positioning him well to build on his predecessor’s work.

Currently serving as Director for Development and Open Societies at the FCDO, a post he has held since 2023, Rogg has also led the department’s Development, Parliament, Coordination, and Capability division from 2021 to 2023. His diplomatic career spans several continents, with senior roles in Ethiopia, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Nigeria, Vietnam, and the UK.

In addition to his public service career, Mr. Rogg’s professional background includes significant roles in the private sector, having worked at Merrill Lynch, the Inter-American Development Bank, and PricewaterhouseCoopers. He also held academic positions at the University of Oxford as a researcher and instructor.

Mr.Rogg’s return to Ghana is expected to reinforce UK-Ghana relations, particularly in areas such as trade, security, education, and climate action. Thompson, who has served as High Commissioner since 2021, is credited with strengthening ties between the two nations, though details of her next posting remain undisclosed.
