Ghanaian Highlife musician Kofi Eiphos has made history as the first Ghanaian artist to take part in a large-scale theatrical reenactment of the crucifixion of Jesus Christ in Germany.

Eiphos, whose real name is Isaac Oteng, joined a cast of German actors on Easter Friday [18 April] for a grand Passion play staged in the city of Ulm. He took on the role of a Roman soldier in the production, which forms part of the city’s Easter celebrations.

Easter is one of the most significant events in the Christian calendar, commemorating the resurrection of Jesus Christ following his crucifixion around 30 AD. While many around the world mark the occasion with church services and family gatherings, the Ulm community brought the story to life with a dramatic stage performance.

Best known for hit songs such as ‘DJ 50,50’ and ‘Afehyiapa’, Kofi Eiphos brought a distinct presence to the historical role, showcasing a different side to his artistic talents.

Speaking after the performance, he described the experience as humbling and unforgettable.

“It was an honour, a truly humbling experience,” he said. “To be part of telling such a powerful story, especially during Easter, is something I will never forget. The dedication of the entire cast and crew was inspiring, and I am so grateful for the warm welcome I received.”

The performance marked a significant milestone in the artist’s career, highlighting the growing international presence of Ghanaian creatives in global cultural events.
