President John Mahama has appointed Matilda Asante-Asiedu as the Second Deputy Governor of the Bank of Ghana.

The appointment, made in accordance with Section 17 of the Bank of Ghana Act, 2002 (Act 612), was announced in a statement issued by presidential spokesperson and Minister for Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu.

Mrs Asante-Asiedu brings a diverse background in banking, communications, and executive leadership to the central bank. She most recently served as Group Head of Retail Banking at Access Bank Ghana PLC, where she played a key role in expanding the bank’s retail operations.

She holds an MBA in Marketing from the GIMPA Business School and an MA in Journalism Studies from Cardiff University. Her earlier academic qualifications include diplomas in journalism and public affairs reporting from institutions in Ghana and Germany.

In 2024, she became a Chartered Executive Banker through the Chartered Institute of Bankers, Ghana. Her executive education also includes programmes at Oxford University’s Saïd Business School, the Wharton School, and Marquette University.

Mrs Asante-Asiedu’s appointment comes as Ghana continues efforts to stabilise the economy, manage inflation, and strengthen the financial sector.

Her combination of professional experience and academic credentials is expected to support the Bank of Ghana’s ongoing policy and regulatory reforms.
