President John Dramani Mahama has nominated seven justices from Ghana’s Court of Appeal for elevation to the highest bench in the land—the Supreme Court.

The announcement, which is expected to set off a wave of legal and political scrutiny, comes as the nation eyes critical reforms in its justice system. The nominees, each seasoned in their own right, will undergo consideration by the Judicial Council before facing parliamentary approval.

  1. Justice Sir Dennis Dominic Adjei
  2. Justice Gbiel Simon Suurbaareh
  3. Justice Senyo Dzamefe
  4. Justice Kweku Tawiah Ackaah-Boafo
  5. Justice Philip Bright Mensah
  6. Justice Janapare Bartels-Kodwo
  7. Justice Hafisata Amaleboba

If confirmed, the appointments could reshape the composition of Ghana’s highest court and influence its direction for years to come. Political observers say Mahama’s nominations reflect both strategic foresight and a bet on legacy.
