An Accra  High Court on Thursday ordered the remand of Kwabena Adu-Boahene, the former head of the National Signals Bureau, into prison custody for a period of seven working days as prosecutors finalize their case.

The presiding judge initially deferred a decision on the matter, citing the need to review the intelligence evidence in-camera before issuing a final ruling. After assessing the preliminary material and hearing arguments from both sides, the court concluded that Adu-Boahen should remain in custody to allow the state time to prepare witness statements.

The judge described the decision as a “balance between the freedom of the accused and the interest of justice”.

Meanwhile, two other individuals linked to the case—Angela Adjei-Boateng, the wife of Mr. Adu-Boahen, and Mildred Donkor, a former bank relationship officer—have been granted bail.

In court, Dr. Dominic Ayine, representing the state, also revealed that separate investigations involving Mr. Adu-Boahen are underway at Ghana Water Limited. This suggests the embattled businessman could face further legal scrutiny in the near future.

The case remains under close public scrutiny given Mr. Adu-Boahene’s former role within Ghana’s national security architecture. Further details are expected as the Attorney General’s office completes its filings.
