All caterers under Ghana’s School Feeding Programme (GSFP) have had their contracts terminated with immediate effect, according to a statement from the GSFP Secretariat.

The directive, issued on Thursday, 2 May 2025, halts meal provision for the third term of the 2024/2025 academic year. “No existing caterer on the programme should cook for the third term,” the statement said.

The Secretariat assured caterers that any outstanding payments for services provided during the second term would be settled “in due course”.

The move forms part of a broader restructuring of the programme, which has faced scrutiny in recent months over delays in payments and quality control concerns.

New guidelines for the recruitment of caterers are expected to be announced soon. “The GSFP Secretariat… will soon announce the modalities for the recruitment of new caterers,” the statement added.

The Ghana School Feeding Programme, launched in 2005, provides free meals to pupils in public basic schools across the country in an effort to boost enrolment and improve nutrition.
