Gomoa Central Member of Parliament Kwame Asare Obeng, widely known as A-Plus, issued a formal apology on Friday to Attorney-General and Bolgatanga East MP Dr. Dominic Ayine, conceding that his comments on social media were disrespectful and in poor taste.
In a statement, A-Plus said that while a now-deleted offensive post originated from an impersonator’s account, his personal follow-up remarks in response to Dr. Ayine were inappropriate and regrettable.
“Upon reflection, I acknowledge that the tone and choice of words I used were inappropriate,” said A-Plus. “As a Member of Parliament, a younger colleague, and a junior in the House, I sincerely apologize to Hon. Dr. Ayine and to the general public.”
The controversy stems from comments Dr. Ayine made during a recent press conference, where he referenced social media allegations attributed to A-Plus and urged him to clarify his role in a scandal involving the National Service Secretariat (NSS). The remarks prompted a public back-and-forth, culminating in Friday’s apology.
A-Plus denied any involvement in the NSS affair, explaining that his only link to the matter occurred in November 2024, when he was approached by an individual claiming to have been falsely accused. A-Plus said the individual sought help from his media company to publicly clear his name.
“As a media personality and majority shareholder in a Ghanaian media company—as disclosed in my asset declaration—I assisted this person through media engagements,” he said. “If this support is being misinterpreted as an attempt to suppress the case, I respectfully disagree. I firmly believe that every accused person deserves to be heard.”
While disavowing the fake account that initially circulated the allegations, A-Plus acknowledged responsibility for his own subsequent post, which he has since removed as a sign of goodwill.
The lawmaker emphasized his ongoing commitment to anti-corruption efforts, stating that his advocacy would continue to be guided by “integrity, fairness, and mutual respect.”
