President John Dramani Mahama has imposed tough sanctions on government appointees who failed to declare their assets by the March 31 deadline, according to a statement from the presidency.

The defaulters will forfeit three months’ salary, in addition to a previously mandated one-month salary contribution to the Ghana Medical Trust Fund, bringing the total to four months’ pay.

The announcement was made on Monday, 5 May, by the Minister in Charge of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, via a Facebook post.

“All defaulters have up to close of day tomorrow to declare their assets or they stand automatically dismissed,” Mr Kwakye Ofosu wrote.

Asset declaration by public officials is a legal requirement in Ghana aimed at promoting transparency and fighting corruption. President Mahama’s move is seen as part of a broader effort to reinforce accountability within his administration.
