Repeated rejections of Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executive (MMDCE) nominees risk delaying development in parts of Ghana, Greater Accra Regional Minister Linda Ocloo has warned.

Her remarks come after the nominee for the Ada East District failed to secure the required two-thirds majority vote for confirmation.

Speaking to journalists on Wednesday, Ms Ocloo urged nominees to actively engage with assembly members ahead of confirmation processes to bolster their support.

“If you delay the confirmation, you delay development and progress,” she said. “They have started a lot of improvements. If the DCE is at post, he can lobby for some of the assembly members to be employed.

“But if the DCE is not at post, they will pass it through either the district coordinators or another place, which will delay [progress],” she added.

The government relies on MMDCEs to implement policies and coordinate development projects at the local level.
