Ghanaian televangelist Patricia Asiedua Asiamah, popularly known as Nana Agradaa, said she will return an $800 cash gift she received from Sammy Gyamfi, the Acting Chief Executive Officer of the state-run Ghana Gold Board, and pledged to double the amount in restitution amid growing public criticism.

The gesture, captured in a video that has since gone viral on social media, shows Mr. Gyamfi handing what appears to be a stack of U.S. currency to Ms. Asiamah.

The footage has sparked outrage among opposition lawmakers, who argue the transaction raises serious questions about ethics in public office.

“I will return the $800 and even double it,” Ms. Asiamah said in a livestreamed broadcast on Instagram. “I will go to his office, with a camera, and show Ghanaians that I have returned the money.”

The former traditional priestess, who now brands herself a Christian evangelist, said she was troubled by the controversy’s potential to damage Mr. Gyamfi’s career and added that her faith compelled her to act.

“This is my mantle, my Bible, and my anointing oil,” she said. “As a great woman of God, I will set my church on fire if I am the reason Sammy loses his job.”

The incident has injected fresh political tension into an already polarized environment.
