A former head of the  National Signals Bureau, Kwabena Adu-Boahene, has been rearrested despite completing a court-ordered remand period.

Mr Adu-Boahene, who is facing charges including theft, money laundering, and causing financial loss to the state, was initially remanded on 2 May amid allegations of witness tampering.

However, his lawyer, Samuel Atta Akyea, told the court on Tuesday that his client was taken into custody again on a separate matter shortly after the initial remand ended. He did not give further details about the new arrest.

Ghana’s Attorney General had earlier confirmed that Mr Adu-Boahene was also under investigation in connection with a case involving internet connectivity at Ghana Water Limited.

In the current trial, Mr Adu-Boahene is accused of playing a role in the alleged diversion of 49.1 million Ghanaian cedis (£2.7m; $3.7m). The judge has adjourned the matter to 26 May for a case management conference.

The prosecution has submitted all witness statements and is expected to disclose them to the defence by 20 May.
