Dr Tiah Abdul-Kabiru Mohammed, Member of Parliament for Walewale  has criticised President John Dramani Mahama for what he calls selective application of the government’s Code of Conduct for public officials.

Dr. Mohammed  said the president had shown disregard for the ethics framework after pardoning the Acting CEO of the Ghana Gold Board, Sammy Gyamfi.

Mr Gyamfi was filmed handing an undisclosed sum of U.S. dollars to popular evangelist Patricia Asiedua Asiamah, also known as Nana Agradaa. The video, which spread widely online, sparked public concern and raised questions about possible breaches of the Code and Ghana’s Foreign Exchange Act.

Speaking on Citi Eyewitness News, Dr Kabiru said: “Clearly, the president has demonstrated that the code of conduct is a mere piece of paper. He picks and chooses who to punish and how to do it.”

He accused President Mahama of shielding powerful figures within his administration while acting swiftly against lower-level officials.

“The president has been selective. There are powerful people within his government who are untouchable, while the vulnerable are penalised. I’m disappointed that he cannot enforce his own code,” he said.

The presidency has maintained that the matter has been resolved following a public apology and formal caution issued to Mr Gyamfi.

The controversy has sparked fresh debate in Ghana over ethics and accountability in public office.
