The Minority in Parliament has formally petitioned three major investigative bodies to probe a controversial dollar gift involving Sammy Gyamfi, the Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gold Board.

Petitions have been submitted to the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ), the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service, and the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP).

The move follows President John Dramani Mahama’s announcement on Wednesday that he would not take further disciplinary action against Mr Gyamfi. The President said he had accepted Mr Gyamfi’s public apology, though he issued a stern caution alongside his decision.

However, the Minority has rejected the President’s position, insisting that the matter cannot be resolved by an apology alone.

“This case raises serious questions about ethics in public office,” said Mumuni Mohammed Nurudeen, the MP for Nalerigu/Gambaga and a lead signatory to the petition. “We believe a full and independent investigation is needed.”

He is joined by Minority Whip Habib Iddrisu and Deputy General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Haruna Mohammed.

The group argues that the state institutions must establish whether Mr Gyamfi’s actions violated public service ethics, anti-corruption laws, or administrative procedures. They also maintain that the findings should guide any future decisions about Mr Gyamfi’s role in public service.
