Foreign Affairs Minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, represented President John Dramani Mahama at the inauguration Mass of Pope Leo XIV in Vatican City on Sunday.

The ceremony, held in Saint Peter’s Square, marked the official beginning of the new pontiff’s reign. Dignitaries from across the globe gathered for the historic event, underscoring its international significance.

In a statement shared on Facebook, Mr Ablakwa described it as a “profound honour” to represent both President Mahama and the Ghanaian people. He also expressed gratitude for what he called the “blessings and warmth” extended by the Pope during the occasion.

Pope Leo XIV succeeds Pope Francis and now leads the Roman Catholic Church at a time of both reflection and reform.
