The Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) on Monday commenced nationwide elections to select new national and regional executives, with polls opening at 8:00 a.m. and set to close at 3:00 p.m. local time. Voting is being conducted at designated polling centers across the country, marking a pivotal moment for the association as it prepares to usher in a new cohort of leadership.

Eligible members are required to present a valid form of identification—either a Ghana Card, Voter ID, or National Passport featuring the journalist’s name and photograph—in order to cast their ballots.

Election officials said that ballot counting and the announcement of results will take place immediately after polls close at each center. The elected executives will serve a new term guiding the affairs of the GJA, a key professional body for journalists in Ghana.

Ahead of Monday’s vote, the GJA Election Committee issued a public advisory warning members against a “fake voters’ list” circulating on social media platforms. Describing the list as a “mischievous fabrication,” the Committee urged members to rely solely on the official voters’ register, which it said has been duly signed by the GJA General Secretary and Treasurer.

In a statement, the Committee emphasized that any concerns or uncertainties regarding voter eligibility should be directed to official sources. “Members should seek verification directly from the Elections Committee or consult the official GJA website,” the statement read.

The elections come at a time of heightened scrutiny over transparency and governance within professional associations, with the GJA aiming to reinforce confidence in its internal democratic processes.
