Seven newly appointed Justices of Ghana’s Supreme Court are set to be sworn in on Thursday, July 3, in a ceremony at Jubilee House, the presidential palace in Accra. President John Dramani Mahama is expected to administer the oath of office in what officials describe as a major milestone for the country’s judiciary.

The appointments, confirmed by Parliament following vetting earlier this year, come under Article 144 of Ghana’s 1992 Constitution and reflect efforts to expand the capacity of the apex court as it faces an increasing docket of constitutional, electoral, and high-stakes civil and criminal cases.

The new appointees—drawn largely from the Court of Appeal—bring extensive judicial experience to the bench and are expected to play key roles in shaping the court’s jurisprudence in the years ahead. The Justices include:

  1. Justice Sir Dennis Dominic Adjei
  2. Justice Gbiel Simon Suurbaareh
  3. Justice Senyo Dzamefe
  4. Justice Kweku Tawiah Ackaah-Boafo
  5. Justice Philip Bright Mensah
  6. Justice Janapare Bartels-Kodwo
  7. Justice Hafisata Amaleboba
