A circuit court in Accra has sentenced Patricia Asiedua Asiamah—widely known as Nana Agradaa—to 15 years in prison after finding her guilty of defrauding members of the public through a widely televised “money-doubling” scheme.

The former traditional priestess turned Christian evangelist was convicted on charges of charlatanic advertisement and defrauding by false pretence. Prosecutors said Ms. Asiamah used a 2022 television broadcast to claim she had spiritual powers capable of doubling cash for followers. Dozens of victims reportedly handed over substantial sums in the hope of receiving miraculous financial returns—promises that ultimately proved false.

The court described her actions as a deliberate and calculated scheme to exploit public trust and financial desperation under the guise of religious authority. Ahead of sentencing, Ms. Asiamah underwent a mandatory pregnancy test, as required by judicial procedure, which confirmed she was not pregnant, allowing the court to proceed.
