A Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) helicopter has crashed and burst into flames after hitting a tree near Adansi Akrofuom in the Ashanti Region. The incident occurred on the morning of Wednesday, August 6, 2025.

Eyewitnesses reported that the aircraft, which operates the Accra–Obuasi route every Wednesday, went down under unclear circumstances.

Assembly Member for the area, Matthew Baah, told the Media that he received a distress call while on his farm.

“After the crash, everything went silent. Residents who rushed to the scene found the helicopter completely engulfed in flames,” he recounted.

Initial reports suggest at least four people may have been on board, as body parts were found at the site. Their identities, however, remain unconfirmed.

The Ghana Armed Forces later issued a statement confirming that the helicopter, which was en route to Obuasi, had three crew members and five passengers aboard before communication was lost. The occupants were reportedly traveling to attend the launch of the Responsible Cooperative Mining and Skills Development Programme (rCOMSDEP)—a flagship initiative aimed at formalizing Ghana’s small-scale mining sector.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation, though poor weather conditions have been mentioned as a possible factor.

This is a developing story.
