The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has amended its statutes to extend the presidential term limit from two to three, allowing a maximum tenure of 12 years.

The decision was reached at the Association’s 31st Ordinary Congress in Prampram, which brought together delegates from all 124 member bodies. The annual congress, mandated by Article 31(2) of the GFA Statutes (2019), reviews the Association’s performance, financial reports, and strategic plans for the upcoming football season.

Under the new arrangement, a GFA president can serve three four-year terms, in line with governance provisions of FIFA and the Confederation of African Football (CAF). The Association says the change is intended to ensure stability and continuity in leadership, giving room for long-term development projects to take root.

The reform, reportedly endorsed by FIFA, could have direct implications for current GFA President Kurt Okraku, who is in his second term with two years left to serve.
