The Tema Central Constituency Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Okwei Ian Tabalor, has strongly denied claims by the Tema Development Company (TDC) that he facilitated the sale of public land to his wife for just GHC2,000.

The allegation, made by TDC’s Managing Director, Courage Makafui Nunekpeku, suggested that the land—originally designated for a public toilet project in Tema Community 5—was illegally acquired by Mr. Tabalor’s wife. According to TDC, the plot has since been retrieved, and Mr. Tabalor’s contract with the company terminated after an internal investigation.

But addressing the media, Mr. Tabalor dismissed the accusation as false and “deeply unfair,” insisting he had no role in his wife’s acquisition.

“This is something that my wife brought to my attention. Her brother, Caleb Kisei, who worked at TDC before travelling abroad, told her about a commercial plot next to his in Community Five. She went through the normal process and applied. I had no hand in it. I was never in charge of land allocation,” he explained.

Mr. Tabalor noted that the land application and fees were processed by a former TDC Estate Manager, Mr. Asare Darko, who approved the allocation.

“The fee she paid was officially assessed by the Estate Manager. She even secured a development permit from TDC at a cost of GHC4,600 and later obtained an ETA permit. The plot size is 28 by 30 feet within the Community 5 commercial enclave,” he clarified.

The NPP executive stressed that his role at TDC was strictly administrative.

“My work was to coordinate events, handle meetings, manage institutional relations, and sometimes organise facility tours for VIPs. I never had the authority to allocate land. For the Managing Director to accuse me of selling land to my wife is unfair,” he stated.
