Ghana will reopen its embassy in Tehran on Tuesday, 16 September, following a three-month closure due to security concerns, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has announced.

Speaking at the Government Accountability Series in Accra, Mr Ablakwa said the decision to resume operations comes after the implementation of enhanced security measures aimed at protecting diplomatic staff.

“I can announce that after three months of closure of our embassy in Iran, we shall fully reopen tomorrow, the 16th of September 2025,” he said.

“Measures have been put in place to guarantee the safety of our diplomatic staff,” the Minister added.

The embassy was temporarily shut earlier this year amid what officials described as a precautionary response to an unspecified security threat. The ministry has not disclosed further details about the nature of the threat.

The reopening marks a return to full diplomatic activity between Ghana and Iran.
