The Apostolic Church-Ghana said it has removed the “you may kiss the bride” tradition from its wedding ceremonies, part of a broader effort to align church practices with what it describes as Ghanaian cultural and spiritual values.

The decision, approved by the church’s Council of Apostles and Prophets and adopted at its sixth General Council Meeting in Accra on Saturday, reflects concerns among church leaders over what they view as increasingly inappropriate wedding customs.

Church President Ami-Narh said the move was intended to curb excesses associated with modern ceremonies, including practices influenced by Western traditions and social media trends. In a statement, the council said the kissing ritual, while common in some cultures, is inconsistent with the values upheld by the church.

The directive also cautions members against pre-wedding photo shoots deemed suggestive or inconsistent with Christian teachings, signaling a broader push to reinforce standards of conduct before and during marriage rites.

The announcement drew strong support from delegates at the meeting, who said the measure would help preserve the sanctity of marriage and guide younger members amid changing social norms.
