Ghana’s aviation regulator has launched an investigation into KLM following allegations that passengers bound for Accra were subjected to poor treatment after their flight was disrupted in Amsterdam.
The Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) said Sunday it is examining reports surrounding KLM Flight KL059, which was scheduled to arrive in Accra on Saturday, June 27, after videos posted on social media showed stranded passengers expressing frustration over extended delays and their treatment by the airline.
In a statement, the regulator said it had begun investigating the reported tarmac delay and allegations of passenger mistreatment as part of its mandate to safeguard consumer rights and enforce aviation standards.
“As Ghana’s aviation regulator, with safety, security and consumer protection as our top priorities, the GCAA has commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the reported tarmac delay and the alleged mistreatment of some passengers,” the authority said.
The regulator said it would engage KLM and other relevant stakeholders before determining whether regulatory action is warranted. It added that the findings would be communicated in line with established procedures.
The investigation comes after videos circulating online appeared to show passengers alleging they were left stranded in Amsterdam following disruptions to the Accra-bound service, prompting calls for regulatory intervention.
The GCAA did not provide a timeline for completing its inquiry but reaffirmed its commitment to protecting passenger rights while maintaining high standards of safety, security and service across Ghana’s aviation sector.
KLM has not publicly responded to the allegations.
