James Agalga, the Member of Parliament for Builsa North, has been appointed Majority Leader after President John Dramani Mahama nominated Mahama Ayariga to serve as Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs.

Mr. Ayariga’s Cabinet nomination required him to relinquish his parliamentary leadership role. Mr. Agalga, a former Deputy Interior Minister, will now lead the governing majority in Parliament.

The appointment is part of a broader Cabinet reshuffle announced by the Presidency. Kenneth Gilbert Adjei has been reassigned from the Ministry of Works and Housing to the Ministry of Defence, while Ahmed Ibrahim moves from the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs to head the Ministry of Works, Housing and Water Resources.

President Mahama also nominated Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, Member of Parliament, to serve as Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation.

According to a statement from the Presidency, the nominations have been submitted to Parliament through the Speaker in accordance with Article 78(1) of Ghana’s 1992 Constitution. All appointments remain subject to parliamentary approval.
