Ghana’s higher-education regulator has directed prospective job applicants seeking roles within agencies under the Ministry of Education to submit their academic credentials for verification, underscoring a tightening of oversight in public-sector recruitment.

The Ghana Tertiary Education Commission said the directive follows clearance for hiring across ministry agencies and is intended to ensure that qualifications are rigorously validated before appointments are made.

In a statement issued Thursday, the commission urged applicants to present tertiary credentials—including diplomas, bachelor’s degrees, master’s degrees and doctoral qualifications—for assessment to confirm their authenticity.
The move comes amid rising concerns about fraudulent certificates and qualifications obtained from unaccredited institutions. Established under the Education Regulatory Bodies Act, 2020 (Act 1023), the commission is mandated to accredit tertiary institutions and programs and to verify academic credentials.

Officials said the verification process will be a central component of the recruitment exercise, aimed at ensuring that only duly qualified candidates are considered. The commission also urged applicants to comply promptly as authorities seek to uphold standards and integrity within Ghana’s education system.
