Former IGP Paul Tawiah Quaye Dies

Mr. Paul Tawiah Quaye, who served as Ghana’s Inspector-General of Police from 2009 to 2013 and was known for his emphasis on discipline and institutional reform, has died, according to reports from senior police officials.


Mr. Quaye, appointed by former President John Evans Atta Mills, led efforts to modernize the Ghana Police Service and rebuild public trust during his tenure. He was widely regarded within the service as a measured but firm leader, earning the nickname “gentle giant” among colleagues.

Details surrounding his death remain limited, and formal confirmation from his family was still pending at the time of reporting. However, tributes have begun to emerge from within police circles, highlighting his long career and commitment to professional standards.

Mr. Quaye retired in 2013 after decades of service in law enforcement.
