Ghana’s Vice President and New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has called on voters in Asunafo South to support the NPP’s parliamentary candidate, Francis Aduse Opoku, in the upcoming December elections.

Historically, while the NPP has won presidential votes in Asunafo South, the parliamentary seat has remained for the opposition and it is currently occupied by Eric Opoku of the National Democratic Congress.

Speaking to stakeholders in Sankore, Dr. Bawumia encouraged voters to move away from the “skirt-and-blouse” voting pattern, where they split votes between presidential and parliamentary candidates.

“Vote for me because I will improve your lives,” Dr. Bawumia said. “Everybody knows that in Asunafo South, you always vote for NPP in the presidential election but you don’t vote for us in the parliamentary election. But I want you to change that in 2024; stop voting skirt-and-blouse and vote straight for us in both the presidential and parliamentary elections.”

Dr. Bawumia emphasized his desire for Sankore residents to shift voting habits, adding, “I want the people of Sankore to start changing that pattern and vote for Adusei so that I can add him in my next government. Don’t disappoint us this year; we are both number 1.”
