The son of Ghanaian religious leader Prophet Salifu Amoako has been remanded in custody over his alleged role in a fatal road accident in East Legon, Accra, which claimed two lives.

Elrad Amoako, a minor, appeared before the Juvenile Court in Accra on Friday, 1 November 2024, where the court ordered that his Ghanaian and American passports be seized to prevent him from leaving the country.

The tragic accident occurred on 12 October and has sparked public outcry, with many Ghanaians calling for accountability. While the specific charges against him have not yet been disclosed, the court has ordered a medical assessment to examine his physical and mental health following the incident. Amoako is expected to undergo this review at the University of Ghana Hospital on Monday.

The court has set a follow-up hearing for 7 November 2024, during which further details about the case and any potential charges are likely to be discussed.

The incident has drawn significant media coverage, with much of the attention stemming from Amoako’s family background. The case has also raised broader questions around road safety, legal accountability, and how Ghana’s justice system handles juvenile offenders.
