The Electoral Commission (EC) has urged the public to dismiss claims that extra ballot papers are being printed for the upcoming elections.
The EC clarified that in addition to the number of ballots corresponding to registered voters at each polling station, an additional two percent is being printed as a standard contingency, a measure agreed upon with political parties and stakeholders.
Speaking to journalists, Dr. Eric Bossman Asare, Deputy Commissioner for Corporate Services, led an EC delegation on a media tour of the printing facilities handling ballot production for the December 7 general election.
He noted that political party representatives, including those from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP), are actively observing the printing process. “With parties closely monitoring every stage, checking ballot counts, and sealing ballot bags, it’s improbable that any extra ballots would be printed unnoticed,” Dr. Asare assured.
