The Ghana Freedom Party (GFP) has appointed Philip Kwabena Agyemang, widely known as Roman Fada, as its presidential candidate for the upcoming December election. This follows the passing of the party’s founder and previous candidate, Akua Donkor, last week.

The Electoral Commission had instructed the GFP to select a new candidate within a 10-day period after Donkor’s death. Roman Fada, a prominent radio and television personality with Accra-based Atinka FM, confirmed his selection on Monday. He noted that his candidacy resulted from in-depth consultations with the party’s leadership to facilitate a smooth transition.

Speaking on Atinka FM, Fada expressed that his role as Donkor’s running mate had positioned him as a natural successor, chosen to uphold her vision and leadership for the party.

“It is true, and we all remember what happened a week ago when Akua Donkor passed away. I was her running mate for this election, and the party’s leadership saw it fit for me to step in as the new candidate,” he stated.

The GFP is set to officially announce Fada’s candidacy on Tuesday, 5 November.
