Ghana’s governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) has expressed confidence in a win in the country’s December 7 general elections, drawing parallels with the recent success of the Republican Party in the United States.

In a statement released on Wednesday, November 6, the NPP emphasized its close ties with the U.S. Republican Party, noting shared values, such as the elephant symbol, centre-right ideology, and commitment to conservative policies.

The party celebrated the global trend of growing support for centre-right philosophies, citing the Republican victory as evidence of broader ideological alignment. “It is our fervent hope that just as the United States has shown support for such philosophies, Ghana’s ‘elephant party’ will also emerge victorious in the December polls, by the grace of God,” the NPP’s statement read.

The NPP also underscored the bond between U.S. President Donald Trump and Ghana’s Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, stating that both leaders are committed to implementing “bold solutions” in their respective countries. The party extended congratulations to President-elect Donald Trump and Vice President-elect J.D. Vance, affirming optimism that an NPP-led government will continue to build a strong relationship with the U.S. administration for the benefit of both nations.

As Ghana heads into its own general elections, the NPP’s comparison with the Republican Party’s recent victory is likely to resonate with its base, with the party hopeful of a similar outcome next month.
