West Ham midfielder Mohammed Kudus has received an additional two-game suspension following an incident in his team’s recent match against Tottenham Hotspur.

The Ghana international, who scored West Ham’s only goal in the 4-1 defeat, was initially shown a yellow card by referee Andrew Madley. However, after a VAR review, the yellow was upgraded to a straight red card for his actions towards Tottenham defender Micky van de Ven and midfielder Pape Matar Sarr.

Kudus was seen kicking and slapping van de Ven before putting his hands on Sarr’s face during a late-game altercation.

Originally suspended for three matches, Kudus’s ban has now been extended to five games following a review by the Football Association. In addition to missing this weekend’s game against Everton, the 24-year-old will also sit out West Ham’s upcoming matches against Newcastle United and Arsenal after the international break.

The FA also imposed a £60,000 fine on Kudus and fined West Ham United £30,000 for failing to control their players during the incident.

An FA statement read: “West Ham United and Mohammed Kudus have been sanctioned in relation to incidents during their Premier League fixture against Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday 19 October. It was alleged that the club failed to ensure their players didn’t behave in an improper and/or provocative and/or violent way around the 82nd minute. West Ham United admitted to this charge, and an independent Regulatory Commission subsequently fined the club £30,000.”

Kudus is expected to return to action on December 3, when West Ham visits Leicester City.
